"I am the mother of a beautiful son, who also happens to be "profoundly hard of hearing". I taught him and myself sign, using books and any & all other resources I could get my hands on, beginning when he was 3 years old. "I am the mother of a beautiful son, who also happens to be "profoundly hard of hearing". I taught him and myself sign, using books and any & all other resources I could get my hands on, beginning when he was 3 years old. He is now 21, married, became a father, and works his butt off just like any hearing person can & does.. So, I have been signing for over 18 years now. Through the years I have gotten help & education through deaf friends, previous teachers of my son's, deaf organizations, personal (and endless} research, college, as well as from my son himself.

I've been a stay at home mom for 13 years, but now that my youngest child has graduated kindergarten, I am able to work & plan to take classes to become an ASL interpreter. Sign language is such a beautiful language and I jump at any chance I get to share it with and/or teach it to others. I'm fluent in both ASL and Signed English. I've taught & tutored many people within my own family, families of friends, and anyone who asks....which happens more often than you would think. Using sign, working with the deaf/hard of hearing, deaf community, and sharing sign with others is my absolute passion.

This for me is not work at all. Quite the opposite, it gives me such joy! Nothing can come close to personal experience, especially the kind I've had. Besides teaching sign, I can also give at least some insight into the deaf community/deaf culture, laws under the American's with Disabilities Act-especially pertaining to disabled children & their rights within their school district-, help with resources pertaining to signing/the deaf community, and will be a wonderful support system if needed. Working with me will be an educating and fun experience! Because I do not yet have a degree behind my name, I am also able to charge less than an average tutor.

My son is now 20, with a baby of his own, I'm currently studying ASL/American Deaf Culture, and soon will be studying ASL interpreting.

*Another Update* I've completed nearly 2 years of ASL and American Deaf Cultur" less...
