"I am a retired reserve military officer, having served in 2 branches of the armed forces, and also just recently retired from a civilian technology career with a well known silicon valley company. My wife and I are recent empty nesters. In the military I was an intelligence officer and logistician, and in my civilian career I worked at various times as a management consultant, store manager, logistics and supply chain expert, and finally the last 20 years as an information technology advisor and IT transition specialist.

In every organization I ever worked, I have always been teaching and mentoring others. I was an instructor in various classes in the military and in corporate training centers, and also taught online for DeVry for 2 years. However, I feel I have been functioning as an informal tutor my whole life. I have four grown children. They would tell you that when their friends would come over to our house growing up they all called me Dr. Google. My children and their friends would ask me questions and I would not only give them the answer, but the history of how that answer came about and why it is important to know how it evolved to that answer. You can expect the same. If you have a question, I will give you the answer, but if that answer has important history behind it as to how that answer came about, I will ensure you don't leave until you do.

You are smart, educated and clever. But the people who came before you were also smart, educated and clever. We tend to dismiss all that came before us as old-fashioned and irrelevant, but history shows us that much wisdom has been lost. Everything runs in cycles and those who forget the lessons of the past eventually are forced to relive them again. Our current education system skews heavily towards science, math and computers - all great subjects - but this has been done at the expense of the loss of once common knowledge in the areas of history and geography.
