"Hi! I'm Brian. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English from Harvard University, and a Master's Degree in the same subject from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. All of that literary study sets me up pretty well as a literature and writing tutor...and indeed I have extensive experience teaching English in classrooms and in small group sessions alike. My passion for the written word runs deep, and I have a dedicated desire to help my students read insightfully, as well as to write with the perfect combination of clarity, persuasiveness and verve.

But don't let the English background fool you! I'm an exceptionally accomplished Math tutor too, with thousands of hours compiled over more than 15 years of experience helping students with everything from elementary arithmetic to college-level calculus. Obviously I couldn't have enjoyed this level of success as a math instructor without expert knowledge of the subjects in question AND the way they are typically taught in classrooms. But I like to think as well that — as a "literary" type who had to work harder than some to grasp advanced math concepts — I'm extraordinarily well-positioned to pass the fruits of that labor on to my students. I know in my BONES that mathematical mastery doesn't always come with natural ease, so I understand the struggle...and I know how to work through difficult topics in ways that bring my patience, my creativity and my congeniality to the forefront of our time together.

After all, that's the kind of tutor I am! Yes, I have a great deal of expertise across a great many subjects (see my list!) — enough that I've often been called a "one-man learning center." But all that knowledge means nothing if you don't have the right kind of attitude to pass it on...and I'm proud to say I approach my tutorial sessions with both a sense of purpose AND a sense of humor.
