"My name is Phil M. and I am a senior at Cornell University studying biological science, with minors in business and gerontology. Next year, I will be attending Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I am from Westfield, NJ. In my free time, I like to play golf and hike.

As a premedical student who took my MCAT while studying abroad, I understand how daunting the MCAT can be. I studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland, but took the MCAT in London. I arrived in Geneva from New York on a Monday; I took at flight to London on a Thursday; I took the MCAT on a Friday; and I returned to Geneva to continue the semester on a Sunday. Studying for the MCAT 6 months in advance, formulating my own schedule and study strategies, and managing the logistics of taking the MCAT abroad taught me a lot about how to handle the MCAT. A tutor or peer mentor that had already taken the MCAT could have helped me greatly in the process, however I did not have this resource.

I believe that I can be a reliable, effective tutor for the MCAT. While studying for the MCAT, I have gained valuable knowledge and experiences which I can effectively communicate to students. At Cornell University, I am co-chair of a peer mentorship program where I lead lectures and workshops for over 300 mentees. This experience has allowed me to refine my communication abilities. Furthermore, I am the undergraduate lab leader of the Memory and Neuroscience Research Lab. My main role of the lab leader is to act as a bridge of communication between the research assistants, graduate students, and principal investigator. I lead lab meetings and mentor younger research assistants as well. This experience has further allowed me to refine my communication abilities. Ultimately, my prior MCAT experience, communication ability, and desire to help fellow premeds handle the daunting MCAT make me a good fit to be a MCAT tutor." less...
