"I'll begin with my qualifications and background. I'm originally from the East Coast, but I studied in the UK at the University of Cambridge, where I graduated in 2015. My studies there ranged across history (World, US, European), languages (French and Italian) and literature. I graduated in the top 2.5% of my class, and I won the Cambridge Quarterly Prize for best dissertation. I am qualified to help students prepare for the SAT (both reading and math), and also to explore the humanities at ANY level. I've taught students from the ages of 10 to 22, always in a one-on-one format. I began tutoring in high school, helping other students who were struggling, and I've since worked as an au pair for a young boy and as an aid to other university students. I can therefore say confidently that I feel comfortable engaging with a student of any age. My philosophy is that no matter who the student is, the most important skill for a tutor is listening. In order to be attentive to the needs of the individual student, a tutor must listen first, then teach. I know my best teachers have always been excellent listeners! No matter what the level of the student, I believe it is my job to connect to their interests. If a student is self-driven and looking to expand their abilities, then I will find out the directions that interest them in particular. If a student is having difficulty engaging with the subject at all, then I always find some way to connect it to their passions, whether it be sports, science, or anything else. All my friends and acquaintances would describe me a friendly, warm, and caring person, and I bring this to every student I teach. I never do less than my best with students, no matter their level, because anything less than my best simply isn't good enough! In my spare time I'm a huge lover of music, movies, hiking, and dangerously spicy foods." less...
