"As a recipient of The Most Outstanding Senior Award in Latin in High School, 3+ years of experience tutoring college students at Denison University's Academic Support and Enrichment Center, and more than five years of tutoring multiple grades levels on WyzAnt, I have had tremendous success in helping students who struggle with Latin grammar, concepts, and translations using my own effective methods. My students have gone from failing and earning D's on their tests to achieving high B's and A's--all in a matter of weeks. My experience has afforded me with a tremendous skill set to develop a curriculum to match each student's individual learning ability. My goal is to provide the student with a step-by-step program that will enhance his or hers ability to autonomously translate Latin sentences quickly and effortlessly.

My approach to tutoring is manifested in a technique I call the "puzzle strategy." I encourage students to 'dissect' a sentence, i.e. identify and isolate each different grammatical structure in Latin such as the subject(s), verb(s), object(s), etc. In this way, the sentence becomes a much more manageable assignment. And so, translating becomes easier, and with repetition, it becomes routine. This approach also permits the student to focus on one aspect of the sentence at a time, which mitigates any confusion many students face when attempting to translate a sentence using what I call "word jumble." Once the student identifies and establishes each piece of the sentence, the puzzle becomes much easier to solve. This method has proven successful and guarantees improvement no matter the struggles beforehand.

I currently reside in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I am willing to travel to Manhattan borough and occasionally to Brooklyn and Queens, depending on the location. My schedule is flexible, and I am available most nights during the week beginning at 6:00 pm and any time on the weekend as long as it's mutually agreed upon. I am also available for online sessions.
