"Ms. Kimberly S. brings her experience of working as a public school special educator for over 22 years. She currently holds Massachusetts Teaching Credentials in Moderate Disabilities PreK-12, Elementary Education 1-6, and a Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement. Her time in the classroom has taught her that every child has an innate desire to learn. She began teaching, in part, to empower students who have lost motivation because they have been derailed by learning differences, underdeveloped executive functioning skills, or lower self confidence. She has grown to understand that all students can benefit from an individualized learning plan that a credentialed tutor can offer. Her tutoring philosophy is based on the belief that to help a young person rediscover the excitement to learn through academic struggles, a tutor must thoughtfully teach individualized strategies aimed at strengthening areas of need while maximizing and celebrating strengths. Kimberly's experienced, personalized, prescriptive, and positive approach to learning is aimed to unlock a child's educational success. Few tutors can provide the breadth and depth of knowledge in proven educational pedagogy and practices that Kimberly can. Moreover, her service is further differentiated by the following items:

*Individualized service based on a personalized evaluation of each student’s specific areas of needs and strengths and how these can translate, with committed guidance, into more personal success in the classroom and beyond.

*Experience in reaching and teaching students with a variety of learning differences and the wisdom that comes with this experience of knowing that no two students learn in the same way.

*A teaching methodology that values a student’s strengths and encourages an enthusiastic approach to any type of problem emphasizing a systematic method that provides the student with the tools and strategies, thus empowering him or her to be a more independent learner.

Most recently since 2010, Kimberly has been an upper elementary grade special education teacher, liaison and educational team leader at Sunderland Elementary School. During her tenure there, she has established strong bonds with her students as well as their parents. She has worked directly with children and adolescents with all types of disabilities and has been able to witness the academic, social and emotional growth that they are capable of when she has offered them targeted, committed instruction, plenty of encouragement, and high, yet realistic, expectations. As a special educator she has developed hundreds of Individualized Education Plans many of which were written as a result of the standardized data and informal assessments she analyzed from the comprehensive, extensive educational evaluations she has done. Her sense of collaboration, professionalism, organization, empathy and humor have all served her well as an Educational Team Leader. Her vast knowledge base of learning differences and how to address them effectively in the classroom, her intuitive thoughtfulness on helping students be their best selves, and her skills as an evaluator and author of meaningful academic reports have long been recognized by the principals and administrative teams with which she has worked.

Mr. Joseph I, former principal of San Ramon Valley High School says "Kim is diligent in maintaining an atmosphere that is both caring and respectful of the various learning styles of her students. She continually explores new educational opportunities for her students. She is a team player, a powerful educator and takes great interest in the success of all her students." In addition, Ms. Victoria P, Sunderland Elementary School Psychologist says “Kim has an exceptionally strong work ethic. Her breadth of knowledge surrounding pedagogy, its application and the methods needed to support differentiated instruction are unmatchable. Kim’s successful application of skills is evidenced in her abilities to differentiate instruction across learners as well in order to successfully close the achievement gap."" less...
