"I entered Yale University as a Biology major, but Jonathan Spence's Intro to Modern Chinese History course unveiled how alive and intriguing history could be. I loved my senior thesis research at historical libraries and traveled to San Francisco/Oakland Chinatowns through a Mellon Forum undergraduate research grant. At Harvard's School of Education, I brought this excitement to high school students, hoping their experience would be different from mine. After graduating I taught at Boston Latin, the oldest high school in the US, finding a niche in teaching freshman and sophomore World History.

Since then, family and life changes afforded me non-profit opportunities, in collaborations between college students/faculty and community partners, and focusing on educating my own children. I've taught my children Mandarin Chinese (traditional characters) throughout elementary to high school, where I have used more formal textbooks to help them gain high school credits, intermediate-high scores on Stamps Avant exams, and Michigan's Seal of Biliteracy. I have also successfully guided my oldest through the college admission process, through helping him edit and stay on top of his essays. Previous students, friends, and their children have taken up my offer to assist them with application essays, novel drafts, curriculum material, etc. with demonstrable results.
