"I am a geek, and I love what I do. I love teaching. I love literature and reading. I love writing and giving someone the tools he or she needs to express themselves. I love giving students what an education can give them: freedom, opportunity, and every chance to succeed. Most of all, I think learning shouldn't be boring. It should be--it needs to be--interesting, relevant, and fun. I strongly believe that every child can learn. The trick is figuring out how each child learns, the processes he or she uses and his or her particular interests and ideas. I have learned in my years of education experience that, often times, just talking to a student about who they are, what they are passionate about and what they would like to do in their lives can make a tremendous difference in their excitement about learning. I consider myself very lucky to help students find their own curiosity. I am a total nerd who loves learning new and interesting things about the world and about people. I really enjoy helping my students find their own passion and their own voice. While working on my master's at At Kansas State, I was a graduation teaching assistant, where I taught freshman composition courses. After that, I taught for three years at James Madison University, where I again taught freshman composition and an upper-level American literature course. At the secondary school level, I have many years experience substitute teaching. In fact, I am currently employed in Monongalia County Schools as a substitute teacher. I am just about to finish up a long-term substitute teaching placement at Morgantown High School, one that I have really had a lot of fun with and from which I have learned a great deal. I do have my current professional teaching certification; I am fully licensed and credentialed, and I would really enjoy the opportunity to work with you or your child. I am available Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. If tutoring services are needed after 4 pm, please email me." less...
