"I am a marine biologist and have had extensive training in biology, chemistry and mathematics, in a classroom setting, a laboratory setting, and a field setting. I am a fourth year Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) studying the impact of temperature stress on coral. I have worked on and off as a tutor since 2010, aiding students with the understanding of calculus and physics topics. I have experience teaching larger groups of students; however, I enjoy working with students oneonone the most. This focused time allows a student to get the attention that he/she needs to build upon the tools they already have for the subject they are studying.
I like to teach students concepts instead of simple memorization, which can be easily forgotten. These concepts can be used to understand the bigger picture of systems biology and the universality of mathematics.
I have taken extensive mathematics courses (up through Calculus 2 while at the University of Miami) and use the knowledge gained from these courses regularly both in my daily life and the research I conduct. Understanding math is like learning a new language, once you understand the general principles, you can apply those rules to any problem and come up with a solution. I have aided many students, from 8th grader taking Algebra 1 to sophomores in college taking Calculus 2, in understanding general math principles.
I majored in Biology and Marine Science while at the University of Miami. The requirements were rigorous and my coursework, along with the extensive handson experience I have working in marine biology labs, has allowed my knowledge of biological systems to drastically expand. I have taught many students biological concepts, from 6th graders to college students and I look forward to teaching students the hardearned knowledge that I have gained in the 10 years of working in the biology field.
I have extensive knowledge in Mathematics and Biology gained through college course work and handson research experience. If you" less...
