"Good day! My desire to work as a tutor stems from the talents I believe I have been given teaching and working with children. I volunteered with Junior Achievement (April-May 2016) at one of the 4th grade classes at Stadley Rough Elementary School in Danbury, CT. I have been mentoring a 16 year old young man with Big Brother Big Sister from March 2015-present. Furthermore, with 13 nieces and nephews, I have had a great amount of interaction with children since I became an uncle 16 years ago. I believe my certification to work as a Paraprofessional educator, along with the large amount of formal and informal interaction that I have had with children over the years will be a valuable asset for you. I look forward to discovering with you how valuable, rewarding, & exciting it can be to learn about history, geography, math, and reading in 2016. David" less...

Education and Qualifications
|school:||Pensacola Christian College|
Prior to my acceptance into Pensacola Chrisitan College in 2001, I took the SAT and received a combined score of 1160 (620 verbal score & 540 Mathematics score). I received a degree of Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Accounting. I achieved Cum Laude honors with a GPA of 3.59. I have also received a ParaPro assessment score of 480 this year which has certified me as a Paraprofessional educator in CT. After I graduated college in 2005, I worked at two different companies before I settled into the job that I currently have at an energy trading company in Bridgeport, CT. Working in their treasury department for 10 years has given me a good amount of experience with finance that would lend itself well to tutoring your child in math. The company is based in Zug Switzerland and, as such, I have had a good amount of interaction with individuals from cultures and countries other than the United States. I believe this experience will provide a multicultural sense necessary for teaching history and geography to pupils. I have been mentoring two teens (informally & formally) for the past three years, and I taught a 4th grade Junior Achievement class this past spring. The Junior Achievement class that I taught focused on entrepreneurs. In the class, I covered the effect that entrepreneurs have on a region and the importance for them to keep track of their company's profits & losses. We also discussed problems that entrepreneurs may encounter & how to solve those problems. One of the points that I emphasized to the students is the relevance of my lessons to their lives now (not just information for the future). Basically my lesson time was split between a short lecture (with a lot of question & answer time), games, & review of the information covered. I believe it was effective with that class and would also be effective for tutoring. A little tweaking would be necessary since tutoring is less formal and would involve fewer students. One of my goals is to make the lessons fun for students without losing sight of the fact that I am there to help the students with their subjects. I am looking forward to tutoring. I would consider it a great responsibility but also an honor for you or any other parent to trust me enough to tutor their child and prepare them for their future.
