"Hi everyone! My name is Joe and teaching is my passion. I am a member of the Association of American Educators, I have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and I am currently a homeschool Math teacher.

Currently I teach classes 5 days a week, ranging from Elementary Math to Calculus. I also tutor 7 days a week, online as well as in-person. I've worked with hundreds of students ranging from as young as 4 years old to adults 65 years of age. And I can truly say I enjoy every minute of it.

My tutoring approach can vary depending on the student’s needs, personality and learning style. However, my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves. This gets done by using real-world examples (and material they already know) to establish a connection between what they're already familiar with and what they are trying to learn. I use examples that effectively engage the student and I pay close attention to how efficiently the material is being absorbed.

I also switch roles between teacher and student by asking questions in order to check for understanding and to ensure that material is being learned. If we’re doing a Chapter 5 test review in Algebra, for example, I will work the same problems in the same order and compare answers at the end of every problem. By doing this, there will be a stronger connection during tutoring and I’ll be able to explain a concept more effectively or clarify why a problem is done in a certain way.

Learning retention is built upon repetition and actively participating, not with simply hearing a lecture on a certain subject. While the latter is important, it’s best used when supported with strong examples. This way students are ensured they actually know what they’re being taught, rather than “think” they know and forget when it comes time to take the test.

My goal as a tutor is to create a sense of deep understanding and confidence within my students which they can then use on homework, exa" less...
