"Hello! My name is Daniel. I am currently a student attending the Colorado School of Mines for a Computer Science Major. About myself, I attended the my local high school taking a combination of honors courses from the AP program and the IB program, both which carry the intent to prepare a student for college. Forsaking modesty, I would assert that I am an extraordinary test taker, doing well on various standardized tests, including: - 2220 on the SAT; [out of a possible 2400] - 800 on the Math II - SAT II; [out of a possible 800] - 770 on the Physics - SAT II; [out of a possible 800] - 32 on the ACT [out of a possible 36] - I was a National Merit Finalist on the PSAT, placing myself within the top 1% of those who took the test. Along with these assertions of my scholastic aptitude, I try to complement these abilities with hard work and people skills. I've had a few jobs, most of which I was only forced to leave due to it being a seasonal position, or my moving away from the area. Occasions that emphasize my working with people include: - Host at a restaurant/Working at an amusement park - In both of these positions, I worked directly with customers and maintain a positive attitude - Private Tutor - I tutored Math and Physics at the High School level. - In addition, I am frequently called upon [about every other week or so on average.] to help friends in college and high school for academic help, usually concerning math or writing papers. Regarding teaching, I emphasize two main points throughout teaching: technique and understanding. Technique is using the right approach to problems, both practiced and new. In this manner, I want whomever I'm teaching to think things through logically and clearly to the effect of making any problem very simple, from difficult science problems to crafting an effective essay. Understanding is the basic wrapping one's head around an idea. Most of the time, its the teacher's job, but when the teacher falls short a little, I help a fair amount. I believe understanding comes straight from application. Applying learned ideas to learn new ones is the first part of it, buffering understanding through use of metaphors. The second part is understanding how these ideas can be applied to the real world, and the rest of one's life. Overall, I pride myself on being professional, completing tasks to great effect and perpetually carrying a positive attitude. I sincerely believe that I would be an ideal tutor for the subjects I've mastered, and I will take it upon myself to ensure academic success." less...
