"I am a former computer/electrical engineer who became a mathematics professor because I enjoy teaching and studying mathematics so much. I have taught and tutored students at all levels, from remedial to international competition preparation.

I earned a B.E. (summa cum laude) and M.S. in Elec/Comp Eng from Georgia Tech, then worked in chip design and as a programmer for several years, before coming back to the true source of my professional joy: mathematics. I earned a B.S. at the U. of Minnesota, an M.A. at the U. of Montana, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Rochester.

I was awarded a prestigious three-year teaching position at the University of Chicago, where I provided highly-rated teaching in ambitious courses. I also was the coach of the U's team at the International Mathematics Competition in 2015 and 2016, resulting in a 4th place finish out of 72 teams in 2016.

I took a permanent position at a Liberal Arts University in New England upon completing my term at the U. of Chicago. I teach Mathematics as well as Computer Science at this job, and continue to train students for math competitions.

My goal as a tutor is to help students understand the "big picture" of mathematics --- how to start from given premises and logically work one's way to a solution. It is more than just numbers; it is a way of thinking that is helpful in all facets of life. When you get the method of thinking down, all future courses and challenges in life become much easier. And this is what it is really about: education is not just about mastering individual subjects; instead, it is about learning how to learn, so that when you are out of the stage of life of formal education, you may still be a learner.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Whether we end up forming a tutoring relationship or not, my goal is to help people reach their mathematical potential.

* I also do Math and CS consulting work, helping people with grad school prep and applications. Please inquire if interested! *" less...
