"I have been tutoring in the Los Angeles area for the past 18 years in math and science at all levels. I have done my undergraduate studies in physics at UCLA, and currently working on my PhD in Mathematics at Claremont Graduate University, and plan to pursue professorship after the completion of my graduate studies. I have obtained the California teaching license, and have worked as a secondary math, and science substitute teacher on selected mornings in Los Angeles area. Besides having extensive experience in classroom management, and classroom organization, I specialize in onetoone tutoring.
I like to start the session by completing the lecture which was given in the class to make sure that the student has a full grasp of the subject; then, I solve a sample problem for the student, and design a similar one for her, so she can get involved in the problem solving procedure. As the session continues, I design harder problems for the student, and finally, we will target the homework problems.
Communication is very significant in tutoring. Each person can master the subject matter, but has to be taught slightly differently. As a result, I use different tactics with different students. I have worked with clients from many different mathematical backgrounds from elementary all the way to advanced. As far as the test prep goes, I make a sample test for the student from the homework problems covered in the test, and I give him a certain amount of time to do the test; then, we'll go over her mistakes together. I always make sure that the student can reason out the steps to get to the final solution. The key is for my client to become independent of me, and rely on herself, and be able to use logical reasoning to solve problems." less...
