"I have over 20 years experience teaching middle school mathematics, algebra, geometry, algebra II/trig, SAT, Prep and pre-calculus in a classroom setting and almost 30 years experience tutoring those subjects which includes grade 5 through 12 NYS Common Core and N-Gen as well as NYS Regents, Tachs , SHSAT and Hunter College High School Admission Exam prep. As magna cum laude graduate of St. John's University, (3.73) my experience began with tutoring at the Higher Educational Opportunity Program. I expanded to independent tutoring and further developed as a classroom teacher.

If I have inspired a student, I feel gratified. If I notice that a student has an unusual passion for a topic, I create challenges designed to empower rather than to simply praise.

Parental involvement is paramount. Many of my students in the classroom had been considered at-risk and often came from single parent families. Sensitivity to this situation requires special understanding. In all scenarios cooperation among student, teacher and parent is the ideal means of insuring that optimal academic and emotional growth takes place.

Cookie Cutter style methods are out of the question for me. I teach a student by tailoring my style to accommodate his/her needs, not mine. After each tutoring lesson, it is so important to spend 5-10 minutes discussing the lesson and accomplishments of the child with the parent(s). Learning is a teacher-student-parent process that involves not just academic ability but understanding human growth.

Please contact me so we can discuss a strategy and schedule that works for all of us." less...
