"My name is Mike, and I am a rising senior Biology major at Temple University. I am in the Philadelphia, PA area from the beginning of September to the end of April, and I am in central NJ from the beginning of May to the end of August. I have participated in genetics research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for over two years. Furthermore I am a campus representative and driver for the Philly Food Connect Group, in which we "rescue" about 150 pounds of food per week and donate it to homeless shelters. In my free time I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and ping pong with my friends, watching sports, and going to the beach. During my first year at Temple I was a math tutor at George Clymer Elementary School in Philadelphia. It was a great experiencing tutoring students there and watching their confidence in their abilities improve. I have also tutored two students here in NJ. Two summers ago I tutored a boy in Geometry and a girl in Algebra. According to their parents, both children began to have much improved test scores after I helped them understand some concepts better. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of doing well in any subject. All it takes is a little bit of clarification, which I can provide, and practice, which I will definitely encourage. That is my recipe for success, and I am confident that it can not only help any student get an A, but also prepare that student for future academic endeavors. Math has always been my favorite subject. I have earned straight As in math my entire life, I scored a 5/5 on the AP Calculus BC examination in 12th grade, and I scored a 770/800 on the Math section of the SAT. Not only do I understand most math concepts extremely well, but I also do a great job of teaching what I know to students. I will make sure that you or your child fully understands the concepts, as opposed to just memorizing what to do. Aside from mathematics, I am also very confident in my ability to prepare you for the MCAT exam. I have taken the MCAT twice: in August, 2015 and February, 2016. My score improved 6 points the second time I took it (129 chemistry and physics, 93 percentile; 127 CARS, 81 percentile; 129 Biology, 93 percentile; 125 Psychology, 55 percentile; 510 overall, 83 percentile), so I understand what students must approach students must take to succeed on the exam. I personally believe I am most qualified to tutor for the general chemistry and biology sections, but I can also provide great overall advice to help you reach your target score as you continue along your path of pursuing an acceptance to a great medical school. Thank you for reading through my profile. I look forward to helping you succeed!" less...
