"Hi I'm Rachel. I have a Chemistry degree from Stetson University. After a summer internship experience, I realized that I did not want to pursue a career in a chemistry lab. I obtained an Ohio Education Teaching License as a Long-term Substitute for 7-12 Chemistry. I am continuing my education at Xavier University in the field of nursing.

During my gap year, I became a special education teacher at a middle school in the Columbus, Ohio suburban area. I worked on a case load with 15 students. I have experience working with students with ADHD, Autism, and Muscular Dystrophy. Part of my responsibilities were to reinforce topics my students were learning in the classroom. This includes material in Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Spanish. I am experienced with teaching virtually as I helped transition 15 students in March and continuously provided support through video calls and emails.

I like to start off sessions with my students by organizing and prioritizing student work. My teaching style is to challenge my students into thinking about why. Why is the answer or conclusion they came to correct. Then, I like to discuss rationale or reteach the topic, then practice. Ultimately, I want every student to succeed.

I love math! My students typically don't enjoy math. So, I like to tell them that math is just misunderstood. I was accelerated in math all through middle and high school. I continued my math education in college with Calculus I and II and Statistics. The reason as to why I am a great math tutor is because I find a way to present the concepts in examples that my students will understand and I like to connect the math concepts to real world examples.

Science is all around us. It is amazing that everyday science is continuously evolving and mutating. The big hurtle for students with science is that it is often something we can not see with the naked eye. With my students, I like to use the whiteboard feature and draw out what is happening.
