"I have had two careers: 1) 30+ years in the institutional capital markets: including sovereign bonds, commodities, foreign exchange, money management and private equity, and 2) private equity and consulting. My newest career is to be not only a tutor but also a mentor.
The first segment of my career included market-making for security firms whose dealerships were recognized by the US Federal Reserve, managing arbitrage and trading accounts, underwriting US Federal Agency securities, and managing sales forces. Presently, I evaluate and compile financial information for corporate clients, investors, legal advisors, and regulators. I consult with clients to enhance their business development by focusing on cost effective and profitable solutions. I pride myself in being a good listener, an inquisitive interviewer, and a confident decision-maker.
In the last two years I began tutoring on a selective basis, beginning with our eldest granddaughter. She desired help in basic mathematics. I found a balance between tutor and grandpa. Her confidence grew after she developed better discipline and practiced an area that had been a weakness: multiplication tables.
I believe that the student wants to learn and hopes there may be a shortcut to achievement. My goal is to earn the student's respect by being supportive and patient. I believe in feedback which means I give short quizzes so that we may design drills for area of weakness. I have found that updating parents is essential since their child's well-being is paramount.
Repetition is often necessary and applying logic is a path to growth." less...
