"I am a lover of learning and have a strong belief that ALL students are capable of learning, as long as we take a student's unique learning style and personal motivation into consideration. One small success can make a powerful impact on a student's confidence, and continued support and encouragement go a long way. I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities and strengths, ranging in age from early childhood through high school and beyond, teaching general education as well as special education, in privileged communities and the inner-city in the US, as well in a third world country during my time in the US Peace Corps.
While I enjoy teaching in a classroom setting, I am passionate about working with students one-on-one. I find that tutoring is the perfect setting for providing this individualized help that students and parents need. As a tutor, I have helped prepare students for standardized tests and worked to help them stay on top of their current classes, from grades 2-12, in a variety of subjects. I specialize in working with struggling students. I have both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in the area of special education.
I have the most experience teaching and tutoring students with special needs (hearing impaired, visually impaired, autism/Asperger's, LD, ADHD, etc.), but I have also spent years teaching and tutoring 6th-9th grade English, reading, and science. I am very flexible and welcome new challenges. I appreciate when students and parents share their expectations, and I welcome feedback in order to tailor the tutoring experience and ensure total satisfaction.
I expect students to come with a willing attitude, prepared to do the work it takes to make improvements. This is best accomplished in a quiet and comfortable study atmosphere. I will come to your home, meet you at a place we mutually arrange, or even work with you online. Please let me know what works best for you, and I will try my best to make whatever accommodations you need.
