"Hello, I'm Randa Z. and my love of teaching began at a very early age; just ask my younger sister who enjoyed many hours of being the student in my "classroom" as we were growing up. I attended the University of Kentucky where I completed a double major in English and Advertising. Teaching is a passion for me; one that I have been fortunate to use often through non-profit and volunteer organizations. After college, I became a certified Adult Literacy tutor, working with a student, first at an elementary and then an intermediate level. Through our church my husband and I managed a non-profit homework assistance program. It was so gratifying to see students grow and respond to the encouragement as we aided them with a variety of elementary and junior high subjects. Later, I became involved in teaching ESL through another non-profit program providing free classes to non-English speakers in Phoenix. Most of our students were native Spanish speakers and it was a joy to see their ability to communicate grow along with their world of opportunity. In addition, I enjoy helping students proof read and edit assignments. I am willing to spend extra time to help papers reflect your absolute best effort.
Since 1996 I have been teaching twice weekly as a non-profit volunteer. I believe children respond positively to high standards; they want to reward our faith in their abilities. In 2013, I assumed a staff level role as a Children's Ministry Director. In this role, I have been involved in selecting curriculum, recruiting and training teachers, writing the policy and procedures manual, and implementing special events within the organization and for the community. Since new standards related to the Covid virus came into place in March, I have been using Zoom to teach virtually. I have learned a great deal about adapting lesson plans and resources to make online learning an interactive and enriching experience.
I teach and tutor because it is my joy to bring encouragement, confidence, and opportunity to studen" less...
