"I love science and, in particular chemistry, and more specifically, organic chemistry. It has always come very naturally to me. It is noteworthy that there are may people who can master organic chemistry if they put their minds to it however, that does not mean that they are necessarily effective at imparting their knowledge of this complex subject to others. This is a key differentiator between myself and the "rest of the teachers."
I obtained my B.S. in chemistry from Penn State in 1996 and my Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. During both of these adventures I always held my teaching responsibilities to the highest standard. I have helped students who were at risk of failing a chemistry course to turn their work around and even obtain an A or a B.
I took my degree and started work for Merck & Co., Inc. in 2001 where I worked for the next decade. During this time I not only applied my organic and inorganic chemistry skills to the discovery of novel therapies for the treatment of human diseases, but I also mentored numerous associate level chemists. I am patient with students who are new to the field and I have NUMEROUS techniques for imparting my wisdom to others. If the first attempt doesn't work, we are not sunk!
Due to the success that I have had in taking the GRE's, obtaining a B.S. and Ph.D. from prestigious schools, and landing several lucrative positions utilizing my chemistry acumen, I feel that I would be an ideal tutor. In addition to helping with science-related work, I can also help with class and standardized test preparation. Additionally, I can assist with effective scientific writing techniques and resume preparation.
Other areas that I have been approved to tutor students in are the Microsoft suite of Windows-based programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). I am an avid practitioner of fitness-based activities and can assist the novice, intermediate, or advanced candidate in performing a safer and more effective workout.
