"I hold PhD in Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas, in Houston TX. I taught as an adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of St. Thomas from 2013-16, and at the Wentworth Institute of Technology from 2016-17. Working with students, both in a classroom setting and one-on-one, is a job I love. My lessons are always challenging, but I strive also to make them engaging, interesting, and relevant. I have a strong emphasis on improving my students' ability to write and deepen their reading comprehension.
Primarily, I work with adults looking to deepen their understanding of philosophy--to engage, as Socrates put it, in the examination that makes life worth living. For the most part, this revolves around discussing ideas, whether they are derived from reading great thinkers or from real life experiences, and often a combination of the two. It may also include curated readings (think: college syllabus) with focused, structured discussions or even writings, depending on what you find works best for you.
All of this occurs in a flexible format structured around your schedule.
Additionally, I tutor serious and advanced students in high school and college become better thinkers across a multitude of disciplines, including but not limited to the study of literature, history, politics and government. Additionally, I aid students in expanding their vocabularies, improving their logical thinking and their abilities to construct arguments. This includes SAT/ACT and GRE preparation in verbal and writing sections.
I will travel either to your home or to a suitable public location for our session. I request a 5 hour cancellation notice, for travel and scheduling purposes. I am also available for online tutoring within a flexible schedule, for which I require only a 1 hour cancellation notice, and for which my available hours extend from 11am until 10pm ET." less...
