"I love people, teaching, stories, poetry, nature, philosophy/thinking, choral singing, teaching music – chord patterns and song structure – by using the piano (though I'm not a pianist). I have taught (beginning) guitar. I have taught and tutored students in a wide variety of subjects.

I'm a philosopher, naturalist, musician, and craftsman ... designer/builder, welder, woodworker. I have sewn tipis and yurts, built houses, done big-rock landscaping ... plumbing and electrical work, and have been a Hospice CNA. I earned a Certificate of Interpersonal Counseling from the Counselor Training Institute in Vancouver, British Columbia.

I have tutored many students that were having some problem or other. In most cases there is something unfortunate happening between the subject area and the student's self-esteem – the subject is making the student feel stupid. (And, of course, this is quite common with mathematics, since it's so easy for a human being to experience math as intimidating.)

There is more than one way to approach this problem ... but it needs to be dealt with. The problem won't readily go away merely by spending more 'time on task'. But once the (underlying, emotional) problems get handled – you're 'flyin'. I suspect that a year's worth of academic material can actually be learned in about six weeks – once the student is engaged' and wants to learn it.

I believe that this world needs people – and that COULD be your son or your daughter or you – who are ready to (stop fooling around and) commit to the well-being of our great great grandchildren. We need to make up our minds that we are going to pass on to them a planet whose life-support systems are healthy and intact. No industry that I can think of (and of course, every industry is made up of individual human beings) is thus committed.
