"I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Physics at Georgia Tech, with curriculum focusing on astrophysics. During my time as a student, I gained experience working in a broad range of fields and environments. I coded as an undergraduate researcher, modeling data from particle showers caused by high-energy gamma rays. I was a member of the Georgia Tech Marching Band for all four years of my undergraduate, serving as drum captain for two years. And in addition to performing in almost every instrumental ensemble, I traveled in an ensemble assembled by one of Georgia Tech's band directors to a technology and arts expo in Metz, France the summer after my final semester.

Since graduating, I have worked as percussion caption head for high school marching bands, as well as teaching rock music in individual and group lessons. The settings are quite different, but the goals of musicianship and performance are the same, as well as the challenges of working with students at a wide range of skill levels. I draw on my entire background to approach these tasks: abstract musical concepts, applied logically using small-group discussion techniques I refined as a researcher. Music is full of oblique ideas, with rules and exceptions that I love breaking down and analyzing. I am driven by this process: quantizing broad concepts, and helping people to appreciate and understand them the way I do.

Physics is, in a broad sense, applied math. As is music, at least in a general sense. As such, much of my undergrad was spent deriving and solving equations to describe physical phenomena. And while much of that is practice with calculus, a lot of my success relies on being able to intuitively visualize a system and how it might evolve.

As a Physics graduate from Georgia Tech, I have experienced a thorough education on many topics in the subject. And it's the coolest thing! This idea tends to get lost in dry terminology and convoluted math, a point of view that I understand. But while our macroscopic existence is located in a fairly vanilla co" less...
