"Hello! My name is Michaela. I am a recent college graduate with an AA in Early Childhood Education. I have a strong passion for teaching that sparked at the age of 5. I have a huge love for children and my family. I first started babysitting at the age of 13 for family members. I then expanded my experience to friends of family and have gotten to know a lot of people through childcare. My first teaching experience was at the age of 15 when I began teaching Bible School at my home town church. I went to college for teaching and landed a temporary job teaching Preschool at a daycare. My future plans include owning my own daycare and helping other children learn and grow in a comfortable, playful and inspiring environment.

When tutoring children of the age of 3 and 4, I focus on school readiness. That includes shapes, colors, letters, numbers, counting etc. Many of my methods include applying those things to real world symbols and surroundings. For example, a circle is not just a shape to be seen on a flash card. A circle can be seen on a vehicle, the sun, a ball, a merry-go-round, etc. I also base lessons on hands on activities. When teaching Elementary age students, I take the same approach. Students who may struggle with counting can use manipulatives that they use in every day life. For example, instead of pointing to numbers on a number line, children can use Cheerios to count because they will relate to eating them for breakfast in the morning. It is important to understand that each child learns differently and at different speeds by different methods. I hope to have the opportunity to help build your child's knowledge base and watch them become successful!" less...
