"I graduated summa cum laude from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. I then moved to Princeton University to pursue graduate work in organometallic chemistry, a subfield which requires concepts from organic, physical, and inorganic chemistry. As an undergraduate at Youngstown State, I facilitated learning in an Organic Chemistry course through the Supplemental Instruction program, offering three hours of optional review sessions weekly. Students who regularly attended these sessions performed an average of one letter grade higher in the course than those who did not attend. I also tutored students in General, Organic, and Physical Chemistry through YSU's Center for Student Progress. While at Princeton, I was an assistant in instruction for a junior level Inorganic Chemistry course. My favorite thing about Chemistry is that we can always solve problems which appear intimidating by starting with the fundamental concepts, and I love teaching students how to attack difficult problems in this way.
As an accomplished scientific researcher and communicator (15 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, with several more in preparation), I am able to draw on a deep knowledge base to provide students with relevant real-world examples to illustrate and contextualize chemistry concepts. I have experience working with students in one-on-one sessions as well as in small groups or even classes of 20-30 individuals.
Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a session! I look forward to chatting with you and learning about how I can best help you (or your student) succeed in chemistry coursework." less...
