"I am a psychiatric nurse specializing in eating disorders and a recent MSN CNL graduate from the University of Baltimore School of Nursing. I also hold a BA in biology. I first discovered my love for teaching after becoming a TA for my university's genetics class. The experience of helping my students succeed was so rewarding I continued to be a TA for four semesters until I graduated. For this class, I was put in charge of a discussion section where I taught crucial information and prepared my students for exams. Since then, I have had students personally request that I help informally tutor them for other classes.
I have experience working with a variety of different students who all have very different needs, from older adults coming back to college to my own disabled family members. I like to implore a variety of different teaching methods such as flashcards, information sheets, whiteboards, and practice quizzes. I will also rarely just give students an answer, instead helping them work through the information until they are able to arrive at the solution themselves, with a little help of course. I have found that this solidifies the knowledge they already have, while allowing them to integrate and utilize that knowledge to their full potential in a dynamic way.
As a recent biology graduate who received high As in all of my biology classes, a lot of information is still very fresh in my mind. I am up-to-date with current biological research, and I have already experience tutoring for college level genetics and cell biology. I still have all of my biology textbooks that I would be willing to share for cross-references and additional verification." less...
