"When it comes to mastering a topic, I believe that practice makes perfect. I take pride in my ability to break problems down to a series of simple and easy to understand steps. This is followed by repetition to make sure the material is fully understood. I also believe that the best way to test mastery of a topic is the ability to teach it, so I will frequently encourage students to walk me through problems. My tutoring style is strict yet comfortable. I enjoy having conversations with my students, learning about their passions and hobbies, which I will then try to bring into the lessons. This way, my students are not afraid to make mistakes in front of me. I have no troubles if my students get questions incorrect as long as they go back and figure out where and why the mistake was made so we can correct it. Repetition is then used to ensure my students will be experts at this question whenever they see it in the future. I have a wide range of extra curricular activities when I’m not tutoring. I love being outdoors and can frequently be found on the Chicago lakefront path running or on a pitch playing soccer. I ran my first marathon in 2012 and hope to run my second in 2016. At home, I’m always looking for a new recipe or crochet pattern to tackle." less...

Education and Qualifications
|school:||University of Chicago|
I graduated with Honors from the University of Chicago with a degree in Psychology in 2007. After graduating, I pursued my Masters of Arts in Teaching in the Urban Teaching Education Program at the University of Chicago. A family commitment required me to leave the program, but my passion for teaching led me to be a part-time instructor for a test prep company that prepares elementary and middle school students who aspire to attend Chicago's top public high schools and academic centers for the Selective Enrollment Exam, NWEAs, and CogAT. I’ve since been teaching test prep courses for 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, and Algebra students and am well versed in test prep tips and skills. In addition to teaching the courses, I’ve been one of the company’s primary developers, writing questions for tests, quizzes, classroom material, and homework problems. In 2012, I started working with an online test prep company specializing in the ACT, SAT, and PSAT. After working with over 100 students with over 2200 hours using online classrooms and Skype, I am very comfortable with this platform. In addition to test preparation, I’ve also coached students through writing their personal statements for their college applications.
