"WRITING TO WRITE

Pick a topic that you know something about. Start writing until you run out of words. Read until you find the kernel of the piece, what your story is truly about. Pull it out of your piece and use it to write again. Start rewriting: adding to, or eliminating, pumping up your sentences when need be. Rewrite until it feels finished. Then, polish.

I am a freelance writer who has published ten books, edited major magazines & newspapers (NY Post, Cosmopolitan Living, Scholastic Choices, etc.) and written many, many articles for Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, etc. I had a regular column (SAVY) for US magazine. Currently, I am under contract to write for Hearst Magazines.
