"I am a Birmingham native and have lived here most of my life, except for a few years when I lived in Nashville, Tennessee. I have degrees from Auburn (Bachelors), Vanderbilt (Masters), and Samford (Associates). For my professional career I worked as a paralegal in various businesses and law firms. Part time I have tutored reading at Kingston Elementary school, taught Sunday School, and also taught adult classes at Virginia College and Samford University.

I am now retired and want to devote more time to teaching. My goals as a tutor are to open up the student's joy of learning, to give them to tools to learn and think on their own. My method is partially Socratic. I talk with the pupil to find out what they already know about the subject and then lead them to the additional knowledge they need.

I graduated from Auburn University with High Honor. I majored in English with a double minor in History. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching in English from Vanderbilt University. I have taught at McGavock High School in Nashville, Virginia College, and Samford University. I was certified to teach English and History in Tennessee when I lived in that state. During my career I have written formal documents and edited the professional writing of others. All my life I have been a passionate reader of English and American literature.
