"My name is Marlene and my motto is "Math is fun." You've heard that before and you may not agree but it's true. My goal is for my students to agree with this statement as well. We all learn differently and my focus is to present material in various ways to determine the best way for each student to master the material. Explanations are key and my approach includes detailed solutions where appropriate, that students can use as a guide to help learn the topic.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Rutgers University and have spent my professional career in the insurance industry employed as an actuary. If you are not familiar with actuaries, the professional designations require successful passing of a series of 10 exams. The first four exams included college-level math such as Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Interest Theory. I have recently retired from the actuarial profession. I have taught classes in preparation for actuarial exams and have tutored students in math in many levels, including elementary and middle school math, high school math: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, as well as College level Algebra, Statistics, Calculus and Linear Algebra. I love tutoring and seeing the smile on a student's face when they finally understand a topic with which they may have been struggling.

Algebra I, Algebra II and College Algebra

Algebra lays the foundation for all higher level math courses, both in high school and college. I have worked with both teens and young adults to help them master this important subject matter.

Geometry and Trigonometry

I am grouping these topics together because I see them slightly different than other math courses. Students who previously did well in math may suddenly be struggling.
