"My name is Tom H. I recently retired from a career in business spanning over 30 years. I also am a retired United States Naval Officer. I have many interesting and exciting experiences and have learned quite a bit throughout my career. While serving in the Navy, I enjoyed three years as an instructor at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Northwestern University. While there, I taught and mentored prospective Naval and Marine Corps officers. I also spent nearly 7 years teaching online Business and Critical Thinking classes for University of Phoenix. Rounding out my tutoring and teaching experience, was several years volunteering for the Cabrini Green Tutoring Program in Chicago.

I enjoy teaching and tutoring, especially children and teenagers, because I can mentor and teach at the same time. If I can help a young kid develop into a responsible, productive adult, who loves to learn and challenge him/herself, then I have accomplished my mission.

Throughout my business career, I was required to write letters, memos, instructions, procedures, emails, worded precisely for the desired effect. A large, effective vocabulary is a valuable tool to succeed.

I am an avid reader and understand the value of reading for enjoyment, and for professional purposes. Comprehension is an often overlooked skill.

30+ years of business management experience has presented me with many problems to solve, situations to encounter, people to relate to. Much of what I have learned while managing business is directly relatable to situations people encounter everyday.
