"Hello! My name is Kevin Holcomb, and I am a retired, middle school math teacher, with over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience. While serving in public education, I primarily taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics. I was responsible for teaching pre-algebra and algebra courses, in a variety of settings (including, but not limited to: full inclusion, honors, and an all-boys class). Each year, I successfully met or exceeded state passage goals for standardized testing (> 75%). In 2013, and again in 2014, I was selected by the graduating class as one of the most influential teachers throughout their entire time in school.
I initially graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1996 with a degree in Business Administration. Next I attended Wright State University for Education (4.0 GPA), and Penn State University for Mathematics (3.37 GPA), in order to obtain licensure in secondary mathematics. Later, I attended Grand Canyon University where I started my masters in Education (4.0 GPA). I successfully passed the PRAXIS for business (670), secondary mathematics (145), and secondary education (169).
Later in my career I was promoted to the district’s academic coach for mathematics. I was hand-selected by the superintendent to coach and lead my peers, based on historical test scores.
In this position, I was responsible for (25) middle & high school math teachers.
I also have experience teaching online (during COVID-19: academic years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021) and have tutored online for Varsity Tutors. Thus, I am extremely knowledgeable (and have had great success) on a variety of online learning platforms.
I have tremendous success helping students learn how to do mathematics. I present material in a simple, basic, easy-to-understand way. I am dedicated to helping students with their math homework, test prep, study skills and raising and/or maintaining their grades. I guarantee that I will make a difference!" less...
