"Have taught economics at universities -- micro, macro international and econometrics -- while doing research. Then I concentrated on research. Instead of my research interests narrowing over time as usually happens, the research path before me broadened. Now -- "retired" -- I retain university connections.
Understanding economics is difficult for most students, at least partly evidencing the difficulty of teaching economics to classes comprised of students with diverse backgrounds. One outcome is the poor understanding of economics by many or most politicians as evidenced in news reports. I found myself asking, "Can individualized instruction make a substantive improvement in a student's understanding of economic principles?" I think so -- and that grades will reflect the improved understanding.
