"I’m Sam and I have been teaching history since 1979. The Iranian Hostage crisis occurred during the first year of my career, and the “Miracle on Ice” occurred that winter. I’ve taught in private schools my whole career. For 41 years I have taught in college preparatory schools. I’ve lived in Europe twice. I took A Level courses in the U.K. during what would have been my senior year of high school. I lived in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and these two experiences contributed to my 25 years of teaching AP European History.

I have also taught World History courses in a college prep curriculum. I have taught APUSH and American history and government as well. My AP career has been very successful. I am not in the classroom this year because of COVID. I will go back as soon as a vaccine is developed.

I’ve always connected with a wide range of students. Although I always taught in a college prep curriculum I never taught in what I consider to be a “hot house” school. I have been recognized for excellence in teaching at every school. Understanding and explaining history is just who I am. I’m a news and current events junkie. I bring a variety of personal experiences, like the time in Northern Ireland into my explanation of the material.
