"Hello! My name is Sam B. I have lived in the Houston area almost my entire life. I graduated from Clements High School and later attended Texas State University where I studied English, Creative Writing, and Theater. After college, I spent a year living and working in Seoul, Korea. When I came home, I started my teaching career in earnest, spending almost ten years teaching in and around the city. Most recently, I worked for five years at Lanier Middle School as an IB GT/Vanguard 7th grade Literacy Teacher.

Now, I am a published author and freelance writer, but teaching is something I have always loved to do. I look forward to working with your family and helping students with language skills, reading, writing, essay assistance, exam prep, and guided reading. Let's make learning fun. Because, you know, it totally can be.

I love reading. It's something that I did together with my family for as long as I can remember. In college, I put a great deal of effort into expanding my knowledge of literature and literary devices. I've also studied writing for film and the stage, as well. I am a published author with experience blogging professionally for the Houston Press, as well. My first book is a narrative-based guide to Houston's many amazing places to eat, and it's the culmination of a dream I've worked towards since I was a boy. I understand that for many students, reading is more of a chore than a hobby, but too often the constraints of how literature is taught at the public-school level are the reason for this. Finding appropriate texts while offering encouragement and assistance however it is needed can truly turn around a student's success. There is no greater skill a student can have than reading, regardless of what they want to do later in life. I can help with that.
