"There are many reasons why one becomes a teacher. I decided to pursue this career because I always felt content and comfortable around children. It is also my mission to help create the best future possible for our children. I feel a great way to accomplish this goal is to share my love of learning in order to encourage them to be life-long learners.

I have worked with children for the past twenty years. I worked at a daycare for two summers organizing and implementing fun and educational activities for six to ten year olds and was an assistant catechism instructor for one year at a local church. In May 1992, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and then worked as a long-term and daily substitute teacher for four years. This experience allowed me the opportunity to observe children's different learning styles and then adjust my teaching strategies to ensure student success.

I continued to gain valuable experience working with children as a case manager for a private foster care agency for ten years. My role as a case manager increased my awareness of how children think and feel and confirmed that if they are given a lot of love and encouragement, they can thrive. By far, the best learning experience in working with children has come from raising my three sons. If I can help others believe in themselves and feel good about themselves, I am helping my children and others to live in harmony.

As a tutor, I would begin by learning about the child's strengths in the subject matter and focus on these strengths. My instruction style would include methods such as visual, auditory, and tactile to name a few. There would also be clear communication with the child and parents so that they are aware of progress and accomplishments.
