"I studied both neuroscience and music at a liberal arts college (graduating magna cum laude), and I went on to get my master's in TESOL (teaching English as a second language). I have a voracious appetite for learning and I enjoy fostering that same natural curiosity in the students that I tutor.
Because I have a love for learning and sharing interesting information, I frequently led study groups, both large and small for my classes in college - including English, psychology, and neuroscience. I often proofread students' papers to help students improve their grammar, clarity, and style (both MLA and APA).
I have been teaching piano, voice, and music theory since 2010, combining both serious study with room for creative expression. Generally, I have taught beginning to intermediate voice and piano and I have tutored up to 3rd semester theory (for college). The best kind of learning is when the teacher enables their student to become self-sufficient and to follow their own intuition.
Ballroom dance also has been a passion of mine since high school and I have co-taught classes and tutored individuals since 2006. Swing dance - including east coast, west coast, and lindy - is my specialty, but I also have experience in foxtrot, waltz, salsa, rumba, and tango. By focusing on the basic essence of the dance - the rhythm and the style - I try to inspire students to become both creative and proficient in their dancing.
I enjoy coming up with creative methods that help the student make their education their own. I always try to emphasize the wonder and beauty in the subject and work off of the student's inner motivation to discover it for themselves. If provided with the proper tools and presented with an intriguing challenge, I believe that students will become motivated and excel." less...
