"Hi there, I'm Aaron! I work in tech here in DC and am doing some tutoring to fund a couple hobbies of mine. I have my MA in International Relations at Johns Hopkins SAIS here in DC, and graduated from Haverford College with a BA in Political Science and Russian. To cut to the chase, I'm a giant nerd when it comes to history, politics, and the Russian language (I have yet to meet somebody as excited about verbs as I am!), and I love sharing my passion. Watching students' skills grow is a wonderful feeling, too. I have experience working with both kids and adults, and have experience teaching English, computers, and swimming.
I've studied Russian non-stop since Fall 2009, and have the same love for the language I did when I started. My experience includes a year and a half in Saint Petersburg on two immersion programs, departmental honors, two years of professional experience with the language (ask me about how I translated for a congressman!), and extensive translation work. As far as proficiency goes, I've achieved full professional proficiency (a level 3, which is what most government agencies look for).
I'm not a native speaker, but I have learned the language as an English speaker. That's proven very useful in explaining some of the the more complicated and frustrating parts of the language to Americans.
I have two years work experience in finance and consulting. Both positions I held were writing intensive, and required me to edit colleagues' work as well. My current degree program isn't too light on writing, either! I have a keen eye for editing, and really enjoy helping students to polish their work and express themselves clearly.
I've loved history as long as I can remember, and the subject is impossible to separate from my current studies of political science. For students in primary school, I received 5's on my AP tests for both US and European History. I also have an extensive research background on both a high school and college+ level." less...
