"Hello! My name is Tyler. I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in computer science in the Macaulay Honors program at City College of New York. I originally grew up in a very religious environment with minimal secular education. However, I was always determined to make the most of my education to learn as much as I can with the goal of making it into college. Thus, my sup-par education actually gave me a lot of experience in teaching myself a great many subjects—and then acing them on the state exams. Although many people who teach themselves certain subjects aren't good at explaining the subject to others, fortunately once I started receiving a proper education, all the gaps of my knowledge were filled, to the point where I've risen to the top of every class I took. Therefore, as a tutor, I have experience in knowing what it's like to teach oneself a subject beyond the classroom, what is necessary to understand to do well in the subject, as well as the methods necessary to teach it.
At this point, I have helped students increase their performance on the SAT exam, math and physics exams, as well as write college essays. I have also helped out numerous students in a casual setting in Calculus II & III, Physics, Computer Aided Design, Discrete Mathematics, and essay writing.
In both my studies and tutoring, I go with the approach that everything should be understood and explained, and that no question should remain unanswered, no matter how advanced or basic. I go the extra mile to ensure that both myself and my students, understand all the fundamentals, all that is built on top of them, and how to derive them—with minimal needless memorization. I have seen many people try to memorize answers to specific questions and/or a gazillion formulas in order to pass a specific test. However, that method has many shortcomings. So instead I focus on understanding the material, and knowing how derive complex formulas from one or two simpler formulas.
It is my goal to help students truly understand," less...
