"Hi! My name is Nick, and I'm a language tutor who believes that the key to fluency and confidence in a second language comes from consistent and meaningful practice in a low-stress environment. I know firsthand how frustrating speaking a new language can be at times, but also how rewarding it is to make yourself understood in another culture. I've always been fascinated by my native language of English, and have greatly enjoyed all the opportunities I've had to tutor in ESL, reading and writing. Studying Japanese turned my fascination with languages into a passion, and I love to share this fascinating language with anyone curious enough to try.

My linguistics studies at UCSD, my patience, and my love of thorough explanations are what I use to make customized and effective tutoring sessions and lessons.

I have experience teaching and tutoring in a wide variety of situations, and am confident I can help design a strategy for learning that works for your individual needs and preferences.

I spent two years teaching in Japan, where I planned and taught English lessons at public schools for grades 1 through 6, and gave weekly adult ESL lessons to an eight person class.

I have experience tutoring high school students of diverse abilities and backgrounds in a variety of subjects through one year of volunteer ESL instruction and after-school tutoring with the International Rescue Committee's refugee resettlement program in San Diego.

Recently I began work on a California teaching credential in Japanese, and have one semester of teaching experience in a high school classroom setting. If you have a desire or need to learn, I'd like to work together and help you develop a new passion." less...
