"I have had over 20 years of experience in Engineering, marketing, and management in today's business world, as well as 8 years of technical and community college teaching. Math is fundamental in all of these areas, and is a universal language for solving problems and decision making. My teaching background, coupled with using mathematics on an almost daily basis, provides me with a "hands-on" practical knowledge of experience in communicating to the student more than one approach to mathematical problem solving.

My teaching methods involve first learning the level of proficiency of the student, followed by focusing on the areas that are providing difficulty in learning. I encourage interacting with students, using conversation verses lecturing to communicate key concepts. I frequently use a portable white board for explanations and examples, and encourage students to copy the information presented in their own notebooks for reference and review. I also find that allowing students to use the whiteboard themselves in working sample problems allows me to further evaluate the student's thought process for solving particular problems. This helps me to understand areas of weakness in the student's thought process on which to base further emphasis. Every student's learning process is different, so I find the best process that makes learning easy for each individual by using multiple approaches to understand mathematical problem solving." less...
