"Hello! My name is Ming, and I have a passion for teaching. I graduated from the University of Washington (UW), where I studied Computer Science and Software Engineering (at UW Bothell) and Biochemistry, with a minor in Music. After graduating, I worked as a software engineer at a tech company for two years.

I realized my passion for tutoring during college, when I worked as a computer science tutor for Shoreline Community College, and I have loved tutoring ever since!

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as a tutor and student is that, often, the main obstacle to learning is believing that the goal is too far out of reach. Often, what students need most is not only for tutors to present the material, but to do so in a way that assures students that the task at hand is less daunting than it seems! This is why, when I tutor, I devote myself to careful assessment of my students’ goals, thoughtful breakdown into attainable intermediate goals, and patient guidance and encouragement as students progress. My ultimate aim is always to ensure my students have a thorough understanding of the material for themselves.

The joy of seeing my students’ excitement as they grasp a new concept for the first time is what I love most about being a tutor.

Aside from computer science, music is one of the passions I especially love to share through teaching. I started piano lessons at age seven, and I've played contemporary worship music as a church worship team keyboardist/pianist for over 11 years. At UW, I took piano classes and sang in four different choirs. Over the years, by request, I’ve given informal one-on-one music lessons to several friends, from children to adults, all of whom have expressed appreciation for my teaching style.
