I got a 1900 on my SAT's, and took AP chemistry, AP physics and calculus in high school, aced them (thanks to tutoring), and am taking them again in college. When I first started preparing for the SAT's and taking these classes I was struggling, so much in fact that my parents demanded I get a tutor. I was embarrassed at first because none of my friends needed tutors, but I soon came to realize that getting a tutor was the best solution for me. Having a tutor not only helped me learn the material for the SAT and for each of my classes, but it also gave me that confidence to ask more in-depth questions during class, as well as to attack the toughest questions first rather than save them for the end. Also, what I probably found most useful in the long run is how my tutor forced me to pace myself on worksheets by timing me sometimes, which really helped me out when it came to tests and quizzes. Everything my tutor did for me is the reason I want to be a tutor and how I will tutor my students. I want to be a tutor in order to inspire students; all students have the potential to succeed in the subjects they find challenging, it's just a matter of putting in a consistent effort with the proper guidance.

My tutorial approach is much like the student would get in the classroom. I like to create worksheets and practice problems for the student to attempt on their own before I help them. My reason for doing this is so that the student doesn't become dependent on help from others and so I can identify where the student is struggling the most. From there I can construct additional worksheets and practice problems that focus on where the student is struggling so that they can have as much practice at it as possible. I prefer not to give "homework" considering the student will get it from his/her school class, but if requested I can make some up.
