"NOTE: I TUTOR VIA SKYPE--anywhere in north america. Essay Writing (English/ELA) Tutor - 39 Years' Experience (Via Skype) (4th Through 12th Grade) A much-published short story writer and poet, and a former English professor, I have taught and tutored process-based, five-paragraph-style essay writing for 39 years. The countless students I've helped include those from Phillips Academy (Andover), St. Albans School (DC), Columbia University, the University of California, Fordham University, NYU, the University of Michigan, Swarthmore College, Dartmouth College, and The Dalton School (NYC). Per my extensive training and experience, I break writing an essay into four aspects and six steps. The four aspects are content, organization, development and language. The six steps: 1) know or research topic, 2) brainstorm or free-write (if free-write, must then do brainstorm, 3) organize/finalize brainstorm (equivalent to outline), 4) convert organized/finalized brainstorm to sentences and paragraphs (first draft), 5) identify strengths and weaknesses, 6) preserve strengths, eliminate weaknesses. By breaking essay writing into smaller, more manageable aspects and steps, students can perfect each separately, yielding better essays. Steps 1 through 3 are "pre-writing" steps, which require the student to figure everything out before writing a single sentence. (It's hard, but the results are magnificent!) I charge $50/hour, plus whatever Tutorz takes. I'm not sure this is an option on Tutorz, but for my teaching/tutoring resume and writing CV, please email me. Thanks for your time! P.S. The bad news is the process initially takes longer than trying to do everything at once. But rather than a mystical, mysterious approach, the process is sure-fire, scientific, and explicit--students become fully aware of and in charge of what they communicate to readers. P.P.S. While I don't help students with school assignments, because these are typically rush jobs and students learn little, I do teach them how to write excellent five-paragraph-style essays, the kind they must write now through college. (Even if an essay contains 12 body paragraphs, it's still a five-paragraph-style essay.) With minor adjustments, students can use the process in their chosen field, for as leaders they must possess excellent writing and speaking skills. P.P.P.S. Again, I don't know if this applies to this website, but if you're still interested after we talk by phone, I'll provide references. (I don't like to bother my clients until a parent shows serious interest.)" less...
