Writing in Haymarket, VA

Our son needs help with writing skills. He's doing 2nd grade work in math, science and soc. studies, but there the school had a concern that he doesn't have 'production' writing skills. They don't seem to be concerned about the content of the writing, just the ability to get 'something' on paper. We'd like to reach a happy medium between his ability to express himself in a written format at his grade level, and the school's requirement for writing. Can you help us?
