Reading in Lexington, SC

Hi Ms. Amy, We are looking for a tutor for our 4th grader in reading- "J". Her grades are good (both quarters she got As in Language Arts) and we know she can read the words on the page. What we need help with is teaching her to read for understanding. Unforutnately, the tests for language arts (and to some extent i-Ready) are just asking her to regurgitate and she seems to think that's all there is to reading. We really want her to learn to read so that she can put a story into her own words, take meaning from what she's reading, etc. My husband, myself, and my other daughter are all voracious readers and J doesn't seem to like reading. I would love it if she liked reading, but everyone's different- I just want her to have the necessary skills to read for understanding.
