Math in Glens Falls, NY

Hi Christina. I don't know if you would be interested, but I have a 1st grader in GF and he is struggling severely with math. His teacher keeps him after 2 days a week and we practice practice practice at home, but it just doesn't seem to be clicking. His class is moving far ahead of him and I'm fearful that he will be held back. Homework is nothing but a fight, and no matter how or what I say I can't seem to get through to him. I'm wondering if maybe he's just not being taught in a way that makes sense to him. His teachers response is "he just isn't getting it". ??????? I really don't want to step on any toes at the school so I thought maybe a few months of tutoring will get him on track. Is it uncommon to tutor a 1st grader? I really don't know what else to do. I'm hoping there is someone else who can explain it to him in a way that he will understand it.
