Study Skills in Duxbury, MA

I am looking for a tutor for my freshman boy to reinforce and teach study skills. He is the type of student that retains information easily, wants to do his work independently, but doesn't seem to grasp how much what I call "active" studying is required for the testing that is done at the Honors level in Duxbury High School. I need someone to reinforce, teach, and work with him to see the value of good study skills, planning, and organization. He is working some with me, but is pushing back because I'm his mom. Traditionally I haven't had to help him much and he got by with mostly As and Bs. The few Cs has been mostly due to missing homework, or incomplete project work. High school is requiring a lot more independent study and work. Is this something you have helped high school students with and do you have any references? How familiar are you with Duxbury High School curriculum ?
